DESCRIPTION: The Clinic Assistant (CA) under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, is responsible for providing age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The CA performs patient care tasks and selected therapies as delegated by a licensed professional. The role of the CA also includes patient advocacy, teaching and performance improvement. The CA functions in the ambulatory settings, such as Emergency, Clinics, and Neighborhood Health Centers.
EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a Clinic Assistant or Medical Assistant Program, or Medic in the Military.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements are moderate with regular standing or walking, occasional climbing, stooping or kneeling and regular lifting above shoulders. Requires lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds regularly. Requires close, distance and color vision, hearing, talking, manual dexterity and irregular hours/on call. The work environment involves occasional exposure to risks of electrical shock and fumes or air borne particles; and regular exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, work near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals and risks of radiation. The noise level is generally moderate. Required safety equipment for this position may include gloves, gowns, booths, surgical masks, dust masks, safety goggles and glasses with side shields.
